NEIPP Executive Director
Arthur Rainville, M.Photog.Cr., API, CPP
508-641-2608
Arthur Levi Rainville, M.Photog., Cr, CPP, API,
has been creating stunning photographs, wrapped in intrigue, atmosphere and romanticism, for over 50 years. With his life's work being lovingly displayed on three continents; he has been touted as, "the Poet Laureate of Photography, one of the most sensitive, artists of our time."
Working out of his decorous studio in the historic waterfront district of New Bedford, Massachusetts, he is widely known for his muted, granular color work. Refinements of this life's passion lead to his lyrical, quixotic Mansuesco style of today. Defying a definable formula, Mansuesco, much like Impressionism, is a plurality of looks. An innate quality of light coupled with a compositional choreography is akin to his signature style. In a one-man show at the French Cultural Center, his work was astutely referred to as "... a synthesis of observation and imagination blended with a palette of gauzy colors."
Arthur has taught portraiture professionally for 30 years, inspiring the budding or seasoned photographer to look to Art and Heart as they face the blank canvas. Besides being a noted touring lecturer, he is a prolific author with four published books on the Creative Spirit and living an Artful Life. As our industry's resident 'Sage,' Arthur continues to spread the word that personal style matters.
Now Executive Director of the New England Institute of Professional Photography, his life-long commitment to photographic education is focused on building a contemporary 21st century professional development experience.
His time is devoted and divided between private portrait commissions, photographic consultancy and teachings and his experiential fine art studies and gallery work.
Education Liaison Mark Haskell, M. Photog. Cr. CPP 207-236-3829 "If I wasn't a photographer, I'd have to work for a living." Mark has been involved in photography since 1970. As a high school sophomore he started working in a camera store and soon decided it would be his career. Attending Rhode Island School of Photography in 1972-1973. Over the years, he has done just about every type of still photography, finally evolving into portrait and school photography as his main endeavors. After years of attending PPA style events and listening to hundreds of speakers say "go home, raise your prices, sell wall portraits" he made the move to specialize in "$5" 8x10s the "One Shot", school and event style portraits. He "Semi retired" in 2005, but continues to pursue some portrait work. He prefers now to chase "golf balls and fish" more than preschoolers, teenagers and brides. He also enjoys giving back, especially to young and new photographers, by teaching photography and the business of photography on the side. Attending NEIPP for the first time in 1976 and being involved every year except one self imposed absence since 1980. NEIPP became a big part of my life. Some of my best friends I've met in NEIPP classes. It became one of the "Rights" of spring. You would drive from Maine with the last days of winter nipping at your heals and return a week later rejuvenated with knowledge and lifted by the camaraderie of sharing and the deep rooted caring of all those involved in the "Best" PPA affiliate school in the country. Member His philosophy is simple.
